This year's AGM is still going ahead as planned! It will be held via Zoom, on Friday 28th November 2020 at 7.30pm.

The AGM is your opportunity to influence how the club is run, to volunteer your services to help next year and to seek answers to any questions.

As we cannot meet in person I'm afraid that we will have to miss out on a few of our normal AGM related activities. So there will be no formal presentation of trophies to our club champions on the night (Roger says that he cannot get to everyone's houses during the meeting!), and no quiz. You will also have to provide your own cheese and wine (again, Roger is refusing to deliver to everyone's house!).

As we will be using Zoom to control the meeting, it is important that I know in advance if you are planning to attend. Please email me by 26th November (and preferably as soon as possible) on paulddyson@gmail.com if you wish to attend.

Similarly, please let me know by email if you would like to be on the Committee next year, or if you wish to stand for one of the Principal Offices of Chair, Treasurer or Club Secretary, noting that the Club Secretary post is vacant as I would like to step down to a 'committee member' role.

The Zoom invitation link will be sent out closer to the meeting to those wishing to attend.

The agenda is shown below. If you have items which you would like included in the 'Any Other Business' section, then please send them to me (paulddyson@gmail.com) by Friday 21st November and I will ensure they are included. I also attach the minutes of last year's AGM.

Rules for restricted play effective from 13/05/20

1. Singles play is allowed with a person from the
same household or one person from another
household. If you are playing singles with someone
not from the same household, each person has to
bring their own tube of balls and they can only serve
with their own balls. Doubles play is only allowed if
the 4 people playing are from the same household.
2. You have to mark your own tennis balls and
opponent to return balls back to server without
using hands. Do not use any balls in the clubhouse.
Do not touch by hand balls from a neighbouring
court either.
3. If all 3 courts are in use and other people turn up
wanting to play, the players who were there first can
play for another 15 mins maximum then they have
to let the players waiting come on.
4. If you have to wait to use the court please sit or
stand on the grass or bench outside the courts.
Please do not sit on or use the veranda seats.
5. A glove has to be worn when opening the gate
onto the court and on leaving. A glove also has to be
worn when adjusting the height of the net.
6. The clubhouse will remain closed.
7. Social distancing at all times.
8. No one under the age of 18 can play without an
adult being present

Cardio Tennis Saturday 11.45am - 12.45pm

Cardio tennis - a fitness fun tennis class - is now running Saturdays 11.45 - 12.45

These Cardio Tennis sessions are run on a Pay and Play basis and the cost is

£7 for members and £9 for non members.

The dates are below.

Sat 25/1, Sat 1/2, Sat 8/2, Sat 15/2, Sat 29/2, Sat 7/3, Sat 14/3, Sat 21/3, Sat 28/3.

Annual AGM and Quiz

The event starts at 7pm - activities around 7.30pm onwards - in the Hewitt Room, Marford Hall, on Friday 22nd November. There will be complimentary wine, beer, soft drinks, bread, cheese and nibbles.

It's always a fun event, a chance to meet other tennis members, hear a summary of the year’s events and help improve the club. The role of the club Chair and all other committee positions will be elected before the quiz gets underway.

After two years of sterling service, current club chairman Paul Dyson is standing down - so do consider putting yourself up for this post or offering to help in any way you can. Everyone on the committee is a volunteer and new faces are always welcome to help those who keep the club up and running.

Barn Dance

The hog roast is cooking, the drinks are in the cooler and some folk are even practising their doh-se-dohs and 'wee ha's' .

We still have tickets available and you are welcome (even encouraged) to bring a group of friends - the more the merrier. We will honour the £15 price which is amazing value for a barn dance AND hog roast. A bar will be provided but you will have to pay for your drinks I'm afraid!

Easter Camps

which are clearly designed to take the focus away from chocolate and onto a tennis court! These will be shared with Townsend tennis club in St Albans.

A full set of summer coaching also kicks off shortly.

Club night is so popular we're adding another one!

So we are adding a second club evening, on Tuesdays. This will also be a turn up and play evening, where members will be expected to organise themselves. It will be a logical extension to the group who currently play on a Tuesday evening.

Whilst everyone will be welcome to both club evenings, we would like to suggest a slightly difference focus for each evening so that we are not just duplicating what is already there. We are therefore suggesting that the more social, improving and less competitive players should focus on the Tuesday evening (as with the current group that play on a Tuesday), while the better and more serious players should aim to play on a Wednesday; But please be assured that if you can only make one evening in the week, then you will be welcome whatever your playing preference.

This new approach will start this coming week and we will monitor it's success or otherwise.

I hope you think this is a sensible change and will embrace it accordingly.

There are other exciting changes afoot too. I will be sending another email in the next day or two announcing some changes to Sunday mornings, where we will be adding dedicated court time for families in addition to maintaining our Sunday morning social tennis, some of which will be led by one of our coaches. Watch this space!
